Last year, Young Nudy blessed the masses with his official debut LP Anyways…, a 16-track body of work that spawned well-received singles like “No Go” and “Understanding.” Since then, he’s delivered loose cuts like “All White,” “Never,” and “Vice City,” and contributed to songs like Dreamville’s “Sunset,” Lil Uzi Vert’s “Money Spread,” and 21 Savage’s “Snitches & Rats.”
Following his recently released visual for “2Face,” the Atlanta emcee liberates his sophomore release Dr. EV4L, which comes with 13 dope cuts and new collaborations alongside Uzi, G Herbo, and longtime crony 21 Savage, the last of whom provides assistance on the COUPE-produced “Child’s Play.” As the title for that single suggests, the standout sees the duo making references to the classic horror film of the same name — an approach that Nudy seems to take throughout the entirety of Dr. EV4L from a broader perspective:
“I’m like Chucky, nigga, I do my thing, I creep up on a nigga, pow, bang, send them lil’ evil motherfuckers, they got the mask on, they gon’ Jason your gang, big knife on the stick make a nigga slaughter your gang, all this money that I’m gettin’ make a nigga slaughter your main…”
In a past interview with REVOLT, Nudy’s DJ and engineer Bradley “DJ BJ” Whitaker both explained the Sli’merre talent’s non-stop work ethic, and how last year’s Coronavirus pandemic forced all parties to slow things down:
“…one of the biggest things with him is he’ll go to the studio four times a week and he’ll be in there all night. … One of the biggest things I always tell him is he needs to take breaks, so he doesn’t burn himself out. … It just so happened that the Coronavirus pandemic forced him to take a break.”
Press play on Young Nudy’s Dr. EV4L.
