21 Savage has been applying major pressure over recent years. His first EP Free Guwop (produced by ATL hitmaker Sonny Digital) put him on the map with his platinum-selling single “Red Opps” intact. From there, he continued to keep his hot streak rolling with projects like Savage Mode (executive produced by Metro Boomin), Without Warning (with Offset & Metro Boomin), Issa Album, I Am > I Was, and the most recent Savage Mode II (also executive produced by Metro Boomin).
Today, in what feels like a no-brainer collaboration, the Atlanta rapper took things to another level with the release of his executive produced Spiral EP, the soundtrack to the Chris Rock produced Spiral: From The Book Of Saw movie.
In a press release, the Spiral EP was teased as including “posse cuts and dimly lit room anthems.” As far as musical contributions go, Gunna, Young Thug, Young Nudy, 21 Harold, Real Recognize Rio, SG Tip, and Millie Go Lightly are in the lineup.
In Spiral: From The Book Of Saw, Rock leads a cast that also includes Max Minghella and Samuel L. Jackson through a story centered on a Jigsaw copycat murderer. The franchise-restarting film was first set to arrive last May, though—as with the majority of major releases from that time period—the pandemic resulted in a delayed drop date.
The video for the EP’s lead single “Spiral” was shot in the Saw escape room in Las Vegas and intercuts footage from the movie. 21 and the music figure prominently in the Lionsgate movie and campaigns to promote its theatrical run. The mutual admiration extends to Savage’s own use of the melody from “Hello Zepp” from the first Saw film.
It was only right that the EP was released on the same day as the movie for obvious reasons. Check it out below and make sure you go see Spiral: From The Book Of Saw in theaters today!
