Clearly, Kevin Gates isn’t letting a car crash stop his forward movement. This past weekend, the Baton Rouge star blessed us with two new freestyles over the instrumentals for Pooh Shiesty’s “Back In Blood” and SpotemGottem’s “Beat Box” — the latter of which has become hot commodity among many of Gates’ fellow hip hop peers.
“Back In Blood” sees Gates rapping about his street standing, sexual prowess with his enemies’ women, and other adult-oriented subject matter:
“I can’t pop no bottles in this bitch, why we celebratin’? I’m who all my partners go against, everybody changing, ain’t no sense in tryna tone it down, they already hate me, I ain’t in nobody paperwork, I ain’t making statements/
Been a soldier, been on solo missions, I’m already gangsta, wrecked the Lambo, son to hear that Brasi, I wasn’t ‘posed to make it…/”
Gates continues to deliver hard-hitting bars over “Beat Box,” further proving that — despite his more recent journey towards peace and positivity — he has no issue reminding fans and detractors alike why he’s one of the hottest emcees to date.
Back in February, Gates unveiled his latest project Only the Generals, Pt. II, a sequel to his 2019 EP Only the Generals Gon Understand. The release saw 12 new tracks, including the well-received single “Plug Daughter 2” — a sequel to “Plug Daughter,” which can be found on 2014’s Luca Brasi 2: Gangsta Grillz. His last official album, the sophomore success I’m Him, was released back in 2019 and peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 thanks to 72,000 first-week album equivalent units sold. Currently, he’s said to be working on his third album Khaza, named after his son Khaza Kamil Gates.
