Last July, Beyoncé revealed The Gift, a compilation that accompanied the remake of Disney’s The Lion King, which also saw the R&B icon playing the role of Nala. More recently, she unveiled a deluxe version of the project alongside her Black Is King film that featured a few additional tracks. Now, King Bey reveals a new visual from the project for “BROWN SKIN GIRL,” which features additional assistance from SAINt JHN, WizKid, and her daughter Blue Ivy, who contributes to the song with a beautiful outro:
“Brown skin girl, your skin just like pearls, the best thing in the world, I’d never trade you for anybody else…/”
The visual comes courtesy of Jenn Nkiru and features young debutantes in celebration. In addition to the collaborators, the clip also sees cameos from Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell, Lupita Nyong’o, and more. During the video’s premiere on “Good Morning America,” Beyoncé explained its meaning:
“It was so important to me in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ that we represented all different shades of brown… We wanted every character to be shot in a regal light — Jenn Nkiru came up with the black debutantes. It was important that we are all in this together and we’re all celebrating each other.”
The Lion King: The Gift follows Beyoncé’s live album HΘMΣCΘMING, which was taken from her groundbreaking 2018 appearance at the Coachella festival in California. Prior to that, he teamed up with her husband JAY-Z for their collaborative album Everything Is Love. Her last solo LP, Lemonade, collected a resounding 653,000 album equivalent units during its first week of release, easily landing at the number one spot of the Billboard 200 chart.
