This is not a drill. On Saturday (June 27), news broke that Beyoncé is set to release a visual album titled Black Is King on Disney Plus next month.
In the one-minute trailer, which dropped exclusively on Bey’s website, the songstress encompassed music from her 2019 album The Lion King: The Gift. According to a statement released from both Disney and Parkwood Entertainment, the visual project will highlight the experiences of Blacks in a celebratory way.
“The answers have never left you,” Beyoncé could be heard saying in the trailer before JAY-Z added, “Nothing is complete on its own.” The teaser also included cameos from Sir Carter, Kelly Rowland and more.
“‘Black Is King’ is a celebratory memoir for the world on the Black experience,” the statement read. “The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future.”
The statement concluded, “These timeless lessons are revealed and reflected through Black voices of today, now sitting in their own power.”
On Juneteenth, the mother of three dropped her latest track titled “BLACK PARADE.” The effort was in response to the viral protests happening in America in light of the police brutality-related death of George Floyd.
In a post to Instagram, Beyoncé revealed that the song’s proceeds will benefit black-owned small businesses. “Happy Juneteenth Weekend! I hope we continue to share joy and celebrate each other, even in the midst of struggle. Please continue to remember our beauty, strength and power. ‘BLACK PARADE’ celebrates you, your voice and your joy and will benefit Black-owned small businesses,” she wrote.
Black Is King is set to drop on July 31. Check out the trailer below in the meantime.
