As July 31 approaches, Beyoncé is sharing new details behind her upcoming visual album titled Black Is King. On Sunday (July 19), the singer uploaded a brand new trailer for the project.
In the two-minute clip, Beyoncé said in a voiceover, “You were formed by the heat of the galaxy. What a thing to be, both unique and familiar. To be one and the same, and still unlike any other.” Towards the end of the footage, the singer included a snippet of her latest single “BLACK PARADE,” which she dropped on streaming platforms last month. “I hope we continue to share joy and celebrate each other, even in the midst of struggle. Please continue to remember our beauty, strength and power. ‘BLACK PARADE’ celebrates you, your voice and your joy and will benefit Black-owned small businesses,” she wrote in a post shared to Instagram at the time.
As REVOLT previously reported, the Disney Plus project is written and produced by the Houston native. It is slated to drop on the one-year anniversary of The Lion Kin g, a film that featured Beyoncé, Childish Gambino and more.
To help bring her project to life, Beyoncé tapped on creative director Ibra Ake, who worked on Childish Gambino’s “This Is America” video. She also recruited Jake Nava, Pierre Debusschere, Emmanuel Adjei, Dikayl Rimmasch, JAY-Z, Sir Carter, Kelly Rowland and more.
“‘Black Is King’ is a celebratory memoir for the world on the Black experience,” Beyoncé and her team said in a statement. “The film is a story for the ages that informs and rebuilds the present. A reunion of cultures and shared generational beliefs. A story of how the people left most broken have an extraordinary gift and a purposeful future.”
The statement concluded, “These timeless lessons are revealed and reflected through Black voices of today, now sitting in their own power.”
