Beyoncé will be honored in a huge way at this year’s BET Awards. The Lemonade singer is set to receive the Humanitarian Award for her philanthropy work through her BeyGOOD initiative. BET released a statement on Thursday (June 25) listing the amazing ways that Bey has given back to the world at large.
“In 2017, as a part of her BeyGOOD initiative, Beyoncé established Formation Scholars to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident,” the statement reads. “The scholarship awarded students from four colleges.”
The statement continues, “That year, she partnered with UNICEF to create BeyGood4Burundi. This multi-year partnership was established to bring safe water and sanitation to the small, landlocked East African country of Burundi. In 2018, she created the Homecoming Scholars Award Program, following her historic performance at Coachella, which benefited students at eight HBCUs.”
Last month Beyoncé, along with her mother Tina Knowles-Lawson, launched a mobile COVID-19 testing campaign in their hometown of Houston, Texas. The #IDIDMYPART Mobile Testing Relief Campaign offered free testing to the city’s residents. They also provided them with free face masks, gloves, gift cards, food vouchers, essential vitamins and household supplies.
Following the release of her Juneteenth single “Black Parade,” the “Crazy In Love” singer announced that she would support Black-owned businesses through BeyGOOD’s Black Business Fund.
The BET Awards, which will be hosted by Amanda Seales, are set to have performances from Chloe x Halle, DaBaby, Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne, Megan The Stallion, Roddy Ricch and more. Drake leads the nominees with a total of six nominations including nods for Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Video of the Year and two nods for both Best Collaboration and Viewer’s Choice for his features with Chris Brown and Future.
Congratulations to Beyoncé on her huge accomplishment. You can catch the BET Awards on Sunday, June 28 at 8 pm ET/7 pm CT on BET and CBS.
