Kelly Rowland is on fire with her new single “Coffee,” her latest since last year’s holiday release “Love You More at Christmas Time.” Speaking with Essence, she explained the meaning behind the sultry record:

“I want to celebrate the women in video—every shade, every coffee color, every curve, every essence and what they gave me… My intention I set for the video was to take the light in yourself and your sexuality [and put it in] a God perspective, in a way where you don’t have to get any approval from anybody else. Sometimes when women stand in our own sexuality, without approval from any external source, I think that there comes a different perspective, a different outlook, a different feeling, and usually we don’t even realize we’re doing it, but I think society has kind of made it that way, especially with the Black woman.”

The ode to morning sex also comes with a dope new visual courtesy of Steven Gomillion, which shows Kelly and others in Miami dressed in bikinis, with occasional NSFW moments that many of us will appreciate. All-in-all, it’s a beautiful display for women of color and sexual freedom, which see makes clear with the song’s lyrics:

“I know you got the best of me, I know you need the stress relief, babe/

Before we both get dressed to leave, want you to try this recipe, babe/

I know we just woke up, I know you gotta go but, breakfast isn’t over…/”

Previously, Kelly Rowland released her fourth studio album Talk A Good Game back in 2013, which saw additional appearances from Wiz Khalifa, fellow Destiny’s Child members Beyoncé and Michelle Williams, Pusha T, Pharrell Williams, and more. Her last high-charting single, the Lil Wayne-assisted “Motivation,” was released back in 2011 and landed within the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.
