If there’s a sector that’s been affected more by the Coronavirus pandemic than the rest, it’s the film industry. On May 22, fans expected to head into theaters to enjoy the ninth installment of the highly rated Fast & Furious series — unfortunately, quarantine regulations have forced Universal pictures to push the movie back to April 2 of next year. With that said, the powers that be have begun releasing music from the future blockbuster, beginning with the YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Lil Baby collaboration “One Shot.” The track is said to belong on the forthcoming Road To Fast 9 mixtape.
Both YoungBoy and Lil Baby are having what might be the best year of their respective careers, even in the midst of a pandemic and revolution. This past April, YoungBoy dropped off his second studio LP 38 Baby 2, which contained 17 tracks and features from DaBaby and his mother, Sherhonda Gaulden. That project earned the Louisiana star a number one on the Billboard 200 with 67,000 album equivalent units sold. Meanwhile, Lil Baby skyrocketed to the top of the charts with his February sophomore drop My Turn, which scored some 197,000 album equivalent units and earned the Atlanta native his first official number one spot on Billboard’s albums chart.
More recently, Lil Baby also spoke out against racism, police brutality and systematic oppression via his single “The Bigger Picture,” along with a matching visual that saw the Atlanta star on the frontline during the recent protests that have taken over major cities around the country. Proceeds from the socially conscious release will go to The National Association of Black Journalists, Breonna Taylor’s attorney, The Bail Project, and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Fans can press play on “One Shot” below. Presumably, we’ll be hearing more about the aforementioned Road To Fast 9 drop soon.
