Let it be known that Bugzy Malone remains one of most top tier lyricists in the UK and beyond. Yesterday (Nov. 1), the Manchester star decided to bless the masses with a freestyle titled “The Night After Halloween,” which sees him delivering the rewind-worthy bars that he’s well-known for:
“She wants to know if I’m happy, I say happy is for squares, I’m a star now, squid games, because the umbrella’s Do Milano, diamonds in a triangle like it’s a Mitsubishi, I said fuck a Mitsubishi, I’m a chauffeur kind of guy now … everybody saying ‘red light, green light,’ but I don’t have to play no fuckin’ squid games, I’m set for life!”
Add in the fact that Bugzy took things outside with his close associates to film said freestyle with no edits, and it creates a raw energy reminiscent of classic grime and hip hop cyphers.
Last year marked a couple of serious moments for Bugzy Malone, beginning with a quad bike accident that left him seriously injured. Months later, he would be charged with two counts of wounding to inflict grievous bodily harm following an attack on him home and family — a year after, he would be proven not guilty of the offenses.
Last May marked Bugzy’s official return to music with his sophomore studio LP The Resurrection, a well-received body of work that contained 15 hard-hitting tracks and contributions from Dermot Kennedy, Emeli Sandé, Josh Berger, and Chip, the last of whom Bugzy entered into a highly publicized grime feud with back in 2015. The Resurrection was a top ten success on the UK Official Albums chart, peaking at number seven shortly after its release. His official debut album, B. Inspired, made landfall in 2018.
