2020 has already proved to be an amazing year for women in hip hop. Flo Milli released her debut album Ho, why is you here? Megan Thee Stallion secured her first record on the Billboard Hot 100 with the “Savage” remix, and now less than two week since releasing “WAP,” she and Cardi B are already celebrating as the single has just topped the Hot 100 list. Not too far from them, though, is rap star Mulatto.
The Atlanta rapper has just entered the Billboard charts for the first time ever, landing the 95th position with her single “Bitch from tha Souf.” On Tuesday (Aug. 18), she hopped on Instagram to revel in her latest accomplishment.
“My first ever entry on @billboardcharts. Thank you GOD, my fans and everyone a part of this record. 🙏 I’m so grateful,” she captioned her Instagram post.
The song, produced by Bankroll Got It and featuring Trina and Saweetie, made its way into the Hot 100 just a day after she learned the record was certified gold. “1st solo female rapper from Atlanta with a muthafucking plaque!!! I just made history!!!” she posted. “QUEEN OF DA SOUF 8/21 📀📀📀📀📀 @bankrollgotit @saweetie @trinarockstarr @djyoungpharaoh THANK YOU 🙏.”
Bankroll Got It congratulated her via Instagram, teasing upcoming music with the star. “Our first plaque! Congrats to @mulatto as the first solo female rapper from Atlanta to be certified,” he wrote in his post. “More on the way, ‘Queen Of Da Souf’ drops Friday!”
Trina also thanked Mulatto for giving her the opportunity to be on the charting record. “I’m so thankful to be apart of this record,” she captioned her Instagram post. “Thank you so much @mulatto for this blessing 🙏🏽 @saweetie 🔥#femalerapisuprightnow📀📀📀 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾.”
Mulatto, who signed a deal with RCA Records earlier this year, is fresh off a collaboration with Gucci Mane and a cameo in the highly acclaimed, yet controversial “WAP” video by fellow women rappers Cardi and Meg.
When thanking the Southern rapper for her appearance in the video, Cardi uplifted her. “Just beautiful @mulatto…..I been seen Mulatto grinding and grinding and she really getting up there,” she wrote. “I see her up and stuck up there. Sooo proud of her. Keep Killing and Thank you sooo much.”
