Trina and her family are mourning the loss of her mother, Vernessa Taylor. Several outlets have reported that Taylor lost the battle to cancer at 62 years old.
According to TMZ, Trina’s rep confirmed Taylor’s passing yesterday (Sept. 3). “Thank you all for your kind words and condolences regarding Trina’s mother. It truly gives the family some peace and comfort knowing that ‘Nessa’ lived such a fulfilling life filled with love and abundance,” the statement reads.
It’s no secret how much Trina adored her mother. Back in 2017, Trina released a track called “Mama” in which she spoke highly of her mother. “Thinking ’bout you mama / Got me running to the liquor / Mama where you goin’? / I’m gon’ have to beg to differ / I’d rather go first, so I wanna go with you ’cause I can’t do this without you,” she spits.
Following the release of her single “BAPS,” which features Nicki Minaj, Trina recalled going through a difficult time during the recording process. The 44-year-old rapper stated that she was on the phone with her mother, which inspired her to finish the song.
“My mom was kind of sick when I was in the studio making this song and I was in a really down place,” she shared with Grammy.com. “I was just in there recording one night finishing my album and I called her on the phone, she wasn’t feeling so good, and so that inspired the song.”
Although Trina hasn’t made an official statement herself, this hasn’t stopped fans from sharing an outpour of love. “Sending love to my sister @TRINArockstarr during this time of the devastating loss of her beloved mother. Pls lift her up. This is a very difficult time for her,” Nicki Minaj wrote.
“Trina I am praying for u & your family during this difficult time. Losing a loved one is tough, but I can only imagine what it’s like to lose a mother. Take all the time you need to heal and we are all rooting for your peace. She will always be with you,” a fan wrote.
