Right now, “Rap Game” alum Mulatto is one of the hottest hip hop artists to watch from the already crowded Atlanta scene. Following her official self-titled debut in 2018, she added to her EP catalog with the well-received 2019 releases Big Latto and Hit The Latto, the latter of which featured remix of Mulatto’s street hit “B***h From Da Souf” with Saweetie and Trina. More recently, she’s added to her rising profile with the singles “No Hook” and “He Say She Say.”
This week, Mulatto drops off the new track “Muwop,” an apparent tribute to ATL legend Gucci Mane (“now I got one with Gucci”), who assists with a top quality verse on the J. White Did It-produced cut. Sampling Gucci’s classic Hard To Kill standout “Freaky Gurl,” the two continue the fun, adult subject matter of its predecessor:
“I look good, good, b***h I’m fine, fine, make him give me brain, make him give me Einstein/
I walked in the meetin’ label, seen a dollar sign, it took a couple M’s for me to sign the dotted line/
Slim waist with the booty, this n***a dumb if he lose me, this boy think I love him, b***h I’m Big Latto not Suzie…/”
The track also comes with an accompanying visual courtesy of Arrad, which shows the collaborators flexing their wealth and fly throughout a lavish residence. The clip begins with a kid asking about Gucci’s new girlfriend before his mother complains that he can’t afford one like Mulatto. Poignantly, the clip ends with a reminder about Breonna Taylor, who senselessly lost her life at the hands of law enforcement.
Prior to the release of “Muwop,” Mulatto could be seen on social media creating reenactments of iconic Gucci Mane photos and album artwork, further showing how must she looks up to the veteran as an inspiration.
