Frank Ocean fans have been waiting for the singer’s vinyl to drop since it became available for preorder in 2019. Unfortunately, they may have to wait a little longer as the Channel Orange star has announced the song will not be released.
“Due to the events of this year, Frank will no longer be releasing the song that you purchased on vinyl,” read an email sent to customers. “We will be refunding your purchase of this item, and any additional items in your order will begin shipping next week. We are grateful for your understanding and are wishing you love, positivity and health.”
Despite the cancellation, real Ocean fans are not surprised by his decision. Months ago, he told fans he would be releasing his 7 vinyl that would include a song called “Little Demon,” but later emailed those who pre-ordered the track, informing them that vinyl would instead feature an unnamed song.
Before then, in 2017, Ocean offered a limited Black Friday sale of Blonde on vinyl and in CD format. More than a month after the deal, customers had gotten nothing other than notifications. Buyers were told the products would be shipped out in January 2018, and then received another email that announced shipment was being pushed back to February.
The “Thinkin Bout You” hitmaker also has a history of cancelling festival performances.
In October, ahead of the 2020 election, Ocean updated his site with voter registration, but aside from refreshing his website and communicating with consumers via email, he has been missing in action — something that is pretty common for the Blonde singer.
Considering the chaotic year, the Coronavirus pandemic and the loss of his younger brother who passed away in a car crash back in August, we can only hope that Ocean is doing alright.
