You should never lose faith in something you believe in, and Frank Ocean’s sophomore album is one of them. It might be too much to hope for at this point, but he Internet seems convinced that his long-awaited new album will be dropping tomorrow (June 3). Reportedly titled, Boys Don’t Cry, news of the alleged release has spread rapidly on the internet, of course with skeptical conspiracy theories that this is yet another hoax on our emotions.
Despite the disbelief, things we can attest to the project even being a “real thing” is the slew of celebrity endorsements from fellow beatmakers like Chance the Rapper, who called it “amazing,” and James Blake, who said it’s “better” than his debut. Also, following a secret listening session back in February, where snippets of audio were uploaded, and then swiftly taken down.
Ocean first hinted at the release in an April 2015 Tumblr post, which showed him posing in front of a pile of records and books, and used the hashtags #ISSUE1 #ALBUM3 #JULY2015 #BOYSDONTCRY. He added in a caption, “I got two versions. I got twoooo versions.”
So after a year and counting on the rumors about the follow-up to 2012’s Channel Orange stacking up, this is the latest glimpse of Frankie hope we have, and we’ll most certainly take it.
In the meantime, internet and social media, rejoice.
