Even though he’s transitioned, Pop Smoke’s music continues to live on. Today, fans get to check out a new single from the late emcee titled “AP,” which sees production from Jaycen Joshua, Rico Beats, and 808 Melo. Listeners can hear Pop rapping about the streets, current fame, and more:

“AP, spicy, I bust a check in my Nikes, am I a killer? Might be, two tone, icy, talk to me nice, or don’t talk at all, I make a call and it’s war, I’m off that Adderall/”

“AP” is the first official drop from the forthcoming film Boogie, which is written and directed by Eddie Huang and stars Pop Smoke alongside Taylor Takahashi, Taylour Paige, and Jorge Lendeborg Jr. The song was first teased by Rich The Kid last year, who had a verse on the drill-influenced cut — this could mean that a remix of “AP” could appear on streaming platforms in the future.

Pop — real name Bashar Jackson — tragically lost his life a little more than a year ago today, when a group of gunmen reportedly stormed into a Los Angeles residence that he was renting. He later succumbed to his wounds at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center — he was only 20 years old.

Pop’s debut album, Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon, was released posthumously last summer, and saw 19 tracks with a slew of appearances from Quavo, Lil Baby, DaBaby, Swae Lee, Future, Rowdy Rebel, Roddy Ricch, Tyga, Lil Tjay, and more. The project was a bittersweet success, landing at the top of the Billboard 200 thanks to 251,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. Weeks later, a deluxe edition made landfall with 15 additional cuts and added collabs with the likes of Fivio Foreign, Jamie Foxx, Davido, and A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.
