Future’s manager is addressing all fans who believe a Verzuz battle between the “Life is Good” rapper and Travis Scott is in the works. His message was clear: The rumors are not true.
News of the alleged showdown between the rap stars made its way around the internet after Twitter account @ComplxAmbition reported the Verzuz founders were in the process of putting it together.
“Timbaland’s manager says they’re working on a Travis Scott & Future Verzuz battle,” the account tweeted on Monday (Jan. 18). “Gary Marella said it on Clubhouse today, also said Verzuz is working on doing another sport collaboration and comedy.”
Per usual, Black Twitter speculated the results of the competition, but their excitement was cut short when one of Future’s managers dispelled the reports.
“I love Verzuz,” Anthony Saleh wrote. “But this isn’t true.”
Complex also reached out to Marella who provided more context to his initial statement.
“Someone mentioned that pairing on Clubhouse along [with] 3-4 other wishlist pairings they would like to see,” he explained. “I simply said we will do what we can to make them happen. We’ve had no conversations [with] Travis or Future yet.”
Verzuz’s premiere season ended 2020 with an epic battle between Bay Area legends Too $hort and E-40, but Timbaland and Swizz Beatz’s favorite showdown of the year was the one between Beenie Man and Bounty Killa.
As for the second season, not much has been revealed other than the battle that will kick it off. Ashanti and Keyshia Cole— whose matchup was postponed twice following the “Rain On Me” singer’s COVID-19 diagnosis — will finally put on for the ladies when they face off on Thursday night (Jan. 21).
“Thank you everyone for being patient with us,” read the official Verzuz announcement. “We can’t wait for this magical night with Keyshia and Ashanti!”
