S5 E44 | Ye (Part 1)

Kanye West has essentially set the internet on fire following his appearance on REVOLT’s “Drink Champs,” where he spoke on pretty much any and everything N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN — and the world — wanted to know. During the show’s “Quicktime with Slime” segment, Ye was asked whether he saw Swizz Beatz or Just Blaze as a superior, to which he provided a rather surprising response for all within earshot:
“Well, Swizz Beatz, definitely, because Just Blaze is a copycat, you know. He get credit for The Blueprint, and I did the first half of The Blueprint, and he just copied my half. I mean look—look where I’m at today and look where he at today. So that should show you…”
In the midst of some audible responses from others in the room, Ye continued to double down on his opinion of his fellow hip hop peer:
“I be hearing my—and then, it be all over the radio, I’d have my girl from Chicago, be on Hot 97 and stuff listening to radio, it be another Just Blaze song, another Just Blaze song … I like the originators man. I don’t mind, like, you know, the copycats too, and — by the way — you just gotta say it like it is. … But I love you, but just know what it is.”
A few hours after the episode ended, Just Blaze took to social media to respond to Ye’s allegations. Mirroring Big Sean’s own response, the decorated beatsmith stated that what Ye said on “Drink Champs” doesn’t match with “previous interactions” that the to have had together, much of which involved him or his team or his team reaching out for collaborative work. He also made it clear that he’s happy with both Kanye’s success and where he is in his personal and professional life.
