A literal decade ago, Lil Wayne released a cover of Wiz Khalifa’s “Black & Yellow” — re-titled as “Green & Yellow” — following the Green Bay Packers’ Super Bowl win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. This past weekend, the New Orleans legend returns with an updated version of the track that perfect for a team getting ready to go into battle for the NFC championship:
“Green Bay, Green Bay, huh? It gets scary, Halloween days, scream face, huh? Bloody Mary, secondary Jordan meme face, huh? A-Rod got him offside, free play, huh? That’s a cheesecake, huh? On a hot plate, huh?
Hail Mary, yeah, Aaron to Davante, Green boogers, yellow as canaries Eliantte, huh? Got me shinin’ great, huh? I just hit you boys with the Rodgers rate, came up with the pack, I done well with the Pack’, Aaron Rodgers in the trap, I got 12 on my back…/”
The track also sees an accompanying visual that mixes CGI footage of Lambeau Field with shots of the team and its dedicated fans. Cheeseheads watching the upcoming game can be sure to hear “Green & Yellow” — initially announced during Wayne’s latest appearance on Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe’s “Undisputed” show — during the Packers’ fight for victory.
Last month, Lil Wayne blessed the masses with No Ceilings 3: B-Side, a continuation of November’s No Ceilings 3: A-Side that sees 14 tracks and additional appearances from Big Sean, Euro, Rich The Kid, 2 Chainz, and Lil Twist. 2020 also saw the release of Weezy’s thirteenth studio album Funeral, which gave him his fifth number one album thanks to 139,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. Add in deluxe versions of both Funeral and its predecessor Tha Carter V, and its clear that the Young Money head honcho continues to be one of the most prolific artists in hip hop and music overall.
