50 Cent has been the topic of speculated Verzuz battles for months, but now the Queens native is revealing who he’d like to see in the virtual ring. While promoting his Branson Cognac brand in a panel on Tuesday (Dec. 22), 50 named Drake and Lil Wayne as each other’s ideal Verzuz opponents.
“I think because of the momentum, the best thing would probably be [Lil] Wayne vs. Drake,” he said. “To keep it real with you. There’s two different styles in the same period, so it will be entertaining enough to watch both of them.”
The rap veteran also compared Drake and Wayne’s relationship to his and Eminem’s. In 2009, Wayne signed Drizzy to his Young Money Entertainment label. Likewise, Eminem is largely credited with discovering 50’s talents after signing him to Shady Records in 2002.
“You’d still see that energy… like with me and Em,” 50 said. “Because Wayne provided that opportunity for Drake.”
50 noted that Drake and Wayne are good friends, so the Verzuz would lack the animosity that has driven up views for some of the series’ favorite battles — such as Gucci Mane vs. Jeezy. However, he added, it would still be a night to remember.
Fans will recall that Weezy and Drake have already had a face-off of sorts during their 2014 Drake Vs. Lil Wayne Tour. Inspired by the “Street Fighter” video game, both artists would battle it out each concert with their respective hits. Wayne reached into his arsenal to perform tracks like “Mr. Carter,” “Go DJ” and “How To Love,” while Drake fought back with “Pop That,” “Headlines,” “I’m On One” and more.
The shows would also end with both rappers performing their collaborations side-by-side, such as “The Motto,” “HYFR” and “Believe Me.”
As for 50, fans have paired the “Many Men” MC up with the likes of Ja Rule, JAY-Z and The Game. Despite being former foes, it looks like The Game vs. 50 Cent is the most likely possibility.
