Last month, Dom Kennedy blessed the masses with the third installment of his critically acclaimed From The Westside With Love series, which consists of 15 tracks with contributions from TeeFlii, Quentin Miller, Bryan Roberts, Frank$, Kay Franklin, MyGuyMars, and True Whitaker. This past weekend, the Leimert Park emcee dropped off a new visual from that project for “Rollin Papers,” a G-Dav-produced offering that sees Dom reflecting on his incredibly fly lifestyle:
“From check cashing lines to dimes of all kinds, I came from petty crimes, now it’s nice shutter blinds, salt and pepper shakers on my quarter acre, I often scream Anita Baker while I’m rolling papers, same old love, I’m like OJ with the glove, when it come to getting money, I’m guilty, jets in the tub, I got clothes on the floor fresh from the store, if I let a girl score, next day, she sore…”
The accompanying clip matches the song’s subject matter perfectly, beginning with Dom and a beautiful woman posted up in front of a couple of high-end whips and a lavish estate. Elsewhere, Dom hits up a fish spot and shows love to those in passing before heading to a salon to break bread. Things only get cooler from there.
From the Westside with Love and From the Westside with Love II were released in 2010 and 2011, respectively, and featured memorable collaborations with OverDoz., Skeme, Big K.R.I.T., ScHoolboy Q, Casey Veggies, and more. More recently, Dom reconnected with Hit-Boy for Also Known As, their second joint effort released under the name Half-A-Mil. That project saw 11 cuts and additional assists from 03 Greedo, 24hrs, and Nas. Months later, Dom would keep the music coming with the solo drop Rap N Roll, a 17-song body of work with contributions from Veggies, 24hrs, Allyn, Nike G4, and TeeFlii. A deluxe edition of Rap N Roll later arrived with five more cuts and a new collaboration alongside Don Toliver.
