As far as his entire catalog goes, it’s been five years since we’ve seen a musical body of work from Lloyd Banks. His last studio LP, H.F.M. 2 (The Hunger for More 2), made landfall in 2010 and is a glimpse into the G-Unit brand while the label was still in its golden years — the sequel to Banks’ official debut saw additional appearances from the likes of Eminem, 50 Cent, Akon, and Kanye West, among many other heavy-hitters during that time. Since then, Banks’ has essentially been off the radar from a commercial standpoint — he has continued to both tour throughout the years and keep a presence on social media. It’s also known that he had suffered personal tragedy with the loss of his father.

Regardless, much of hip hop has maintained some demand for a new project from one of the illest lyricists in history. Fast forward to today — fans of the NYC veteran get to check out a new album titled The Course of the Inevitable, Banks’ fourth album that sees 18 tracks with contributions from Freddie Gibbs, Roc Marciano, Benny The Butcher, Styles P, Ransom, Sy Ari Da Kid, and Vado. The production side is heavy as well — names like The Olympicks, Motif Alumni, Illatracks, Shadow Magnetic, Chase N. Cashe, Phill Jvckson, 2wo 4our, Fruition Beats, Mr. Authentic, and Tha Jerm can be seen in the album’s credits.

The album was preceded by a black-and-white trailer provided courtesy of Shatek King, which mainly consists of poet Rashan Brown speaking to the album’s introspective themes while shots of New York City and its inhabitants appear throughout. The clip ended with Banks in a cemetery, a possible reference to the aforementioned passing.
