Over the past weekend, Lecrae dropped his tenth studio LP Restoration, which sees 14 tracks and additional appearances from YK Osiris, Marc E. Bassy, John Legend, Jozzy, Kirk Franklin, DaniLeigh, BJ The Chicago Kid, and Gwen Bunn. Today, the Houston emcee returns with a new visual for the track “Over The Top,” which sees production from 30 Roc and sees Lecrae speaking his truth over the trap-influenced cut:
“Go-go-got a Nike deal, all I see is checks, they on Instagram, flexin’ for respect, you can rent a jet, I don’t care, I fly coach, tell the captain they be cappin’, most of y’all broke/
I got 50 on me, I made a milli’ just bein’ holy, I kept a Benz and I had a Rover, walked in the jewelry store, bought a Rollie/
Billboard number one, did that, independent label, I built that, illuminati rumors, I killed that, arena full of people, I filled that…/”
The accompanying video sees Lecrae in what looks like a massive residence — one that’s filled with snakes, scorpions, questionable label executives, cash, and more. Essentially, all of the luxuries in life go away, but Lecrae shows that faith and family lasts forever — something that he made clear during an Instagram Live session:
“It’s a testament to where I am in life. Especially where we are at right now like if you’re in quarantine or in-home and you don’t have the usual luxuries, you realize it is all vanity.”
“Over The Top” follows previously released visuals for “Zombie,” the John Legend-assisted “Drown,” “Deep End,” and the YK Osiris-featured “Set Me Free.” Prior to Restoration, Lecrae teamed up with Zaytoven for the 2018 release Let The Trap Say Amen, which saw collaborations alongside 24hrs, Verse Simmonds, Waka Flocka Flame, and more.
