Back in December, Lecrae announced on social media that he was delivering a couple of new projects, including a sequel to the Zaytoven-produced Let The Trap Say Amen, along with a tour and a new book titled I Am Restored. While the tour is likely to be postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, fans will soon be able to enjoy Lecrae’s forthcoming LP Restoration. The project sees 14 tracks with appearances from BJ The Chicago Kid, Kirk Franklin, Marc E. Bassy, DaniLeigh, Gwen Bunn, and more.
Preceded by the singles “Set Me Free” with YK Osiris and “Deep End,” the Houston emcee returns with “Drown,” which features John Legend and sees production from Danny Majic, DJ Frank E, and Ace Harris. The track essentially shows the collaborators reaching out to God for help with their adversities:
“I’m drownin’, I’m drownin’, lost in this world, with these waves all around me, deep in the darkness, where it’s heartless/
I don’t know if I can make it, I’ll be honest that, I’m fadin’, I’m fadin’, trapped and I feel like it ain’t no escapin’/
Down to the bottom, all these problems got me drinkin’, might drown in this bottle, all this drama got me thinkin’/
If I had one call, would You answer it? Or would You take back all of Your promises?’ Cause I don’t know who to turn to or who to trust…/”
Taking to Instagram, Lecrae spoke more about the work that he and John Legend put into the inspirational track:
“John and I labored on this one. Even after the initial session we jumped on FaceTime to tweak it. The man is as equally talented as he is humble. His gift and passion bleed thru it. I’m honored to work with my brother. Excited for you all to hear this.”
With that said, press play on the visual for “Drown” — and, if you missed it, “Deep End” — below. Restoration is set to make landfall August 21st.
