Swae Lee has reportedly claimed that he was robbed of some jewelry while he was staying at a Miami hotel.
According to a report TMZ posted yesterday (June 12), Lee claims that $300,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from his room at South Beach’s Mondrian Hotel by the time he was ready to check out this past Thursday. At the time he was set to leave, he reportedly told police about the missing jewelry, which sources close to him say consisted of some chains and a bracelet.
Lee, who’s been in Miami celebrating his birthday, reportedly believes that hotel workers are responsible for the alleged theft. The celebrity news site reports that because a bracelet was returned to him after the reported the robbery, he believes his jewelry was stolen by hotel staff. Police in Miami Beach say that, in the early going of their investigation, there is no evidence that the staff was involved with the theft.
Lee himself hasn’t spoken on the matter publicly, but, in a statement to TMZ, Mondrian Hotel says: “The hotel is working in full cooperation with the police and authorities. As always, the safety and security of our guests and colleagues remains our top priority.”
Unfortunately, Lee isn’t the only rapper to be in a situation like this one this year. Back in January, a group of people broke into a New Jersey building 50 Cent owned and stole approximately $3 million worth of cash and jewelry. Last week, it was reported that Matthew Gale, Richard Murphy and Travis Villalobos were arrested for the crime.
The three suspects have been charged with grand theft, burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, receiving stolen property and criminal mischief. Police now hope to get the valuables returned to 50. Here’s to hoping the same can happen with Swae Lee.
