Summer Walker has something to say to listeners of her new album, Still Over It. While speaking to Apple Music, the singer shared a message including some of the lessons she hopes fans will take away after hearing her pour her heart out about her past relationship.
“Take this opportunity to learn from my mistakes,” she said. “You don’t have to guess if something is love. Love is shown through actions. Stop making excuses for people who don’t show up for you. Don’t ignore the red flags. And don’t think you have to stay somewhere ‘cause you can’t find better — you can and you will. Don’t settle for less — you don’t deserve it and neither does your family.”
Walker first announced her sophomore project on Instagram last month after her unvaccinated status prevented her from attending the BET Hip Hop Awards, where she initially planned to share the news. She continued on with a rollout that consisted of videos of her with her hard drive and contests that challenged fans in select cities to smash glass boxes with hopes to hear the album in advance.
Though her JT-assisted single “Ex For A Reason” earned mixed reviews for its upbeat melody, the project, which came out on Friday, Nov. 5. is filled with songs that mirror the vibe fans have fallen in love with her for. To help her detail her horrible experiences with love, she tapped Cardi B, SZA, Ari Lennox and more. Her outro, “Ciara’s Prayer,” has specifically been a hot topic on social media.
“Summer Walker’s album was a review of how toxic love and relationships shouldn’t be. Ciara’s prayer was the perfect outro track… women deserve better,” wrote one Twitter user.
Another fan tweeted, “Gonna be praying Ciara’s prayer on Summer Walker’s album every morning so god can send me my Russell.”
