BIA is giving Nicki Minaj her flowers.
In a new interview with Billboard, the “Whole Lotta Money” emcee spoke about how she believes Nicki deserves the same amount of respect that JAY-Z gets. “I always say to people, when you speak of Nicki, you got to speak on her like how you speak on JAY-Z and the greats that laid out the foundation for the people that’s after them,” she said. “She broke amazing records and she’s made it easier for people like me to come through and do what we do. I’m always going to give her that credit and that respect because she helped me hit another milestone in my career.”
Nicki was recently voted into the fourth spot on Rap Caviar’s 2010s Mount Rushmore list, alongside Kendrick Lamar, Drake and J. Cole. Over 170,000 people voted and the “Seeing Green” rapper earned almost 40% of the tallies.
During the 2010s, Nicki released several hit albums including Pink Friday, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, The Pinkprint and Queen — which have all been certified platinum at least once. Her first two LPs peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. She also had multiple top 10 singles, including “Super Bass,” “Starships” and “Anaconda.”
While she is in the process of working on her forthcoming studio album, Nicki has been giving her fans new music through collaborations with several artists. BIA and the Pink Friday spitter recently collaborated on the “Whole Lotta Money (Remix).” Back in July, the FOR CERTAIN emcee took to Twitter to express her appreciation for the feature and the time she was able to spend with the Queens native. “I really got the opportunity to bond and write with Nicki,” she tweeted. “Man, my heart is so full right now. This is a bucket list moment. So iconic. So timeless…This shit is crazy. God is so good.”
“Whole Lotta Money (Remix)” debuted in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 chart at No. 16 and hit No. 1 on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop digital song sales chart.
