Last week, Gunna announced his upcoming sophomore album Wunna, along with a teaser clip for the project’s accompanying documentary of the same name.
“WUNNA WORLD,” the Atlanta-bred rap star wrote on Instagram. “Wunna Album 5/22/2020 Me My team and [Amazon Music] [Rap Rotation] got sum special to show y’all the creation!”
Now, Gunna has revealed the first part of his Wunna documentary, which gives a behind-the-scenes look into the creation of his album. Directed by Spike Jordan, the eight-minute clip compiles beautiful footage from recording sessions, travels and music video shoots in Hopewell, Jamaica and Piha, Auckland, New Zealand. The video also shares snippets of several Wunna album cuts, as well as interviews with the project’s producers: Wheezy, Turbo, Taurus and Keyz.
“This trip gave us a cleanse, just like being away from everything,” Taurus said during the video. “You gotta hear music in different places to feel it different. Like, it ain’t gon’ sound the same when we in Atlanta. It’s just not gon’ sound the same.”
“With being, like, in this position, and just having so much sh*t going on, just having the time to really just relax and focus on just creating without no effort, like whatever we come up with — as a creative, I think that’s the best feeling,” Turbo added. “When you can just do it, just like how you used to do it back in the day, when it wasn’t like, ‘I’m doing it for the money, or I’m doing it to get this or that.’ It’s solely like, I’m just having fun with this sh*t. I might do something, I might not. Sh*t, if I do do something, it’s effortless.”
Prior to releasing Wunna Documentary Part 1, Gunna also shared the album’s Turbo-produced title track. Both the Wunna album and full documentary are expected to arrive this Friday (May 22).
