50 Cent and STARZ’s “Power” universe will grow bigger in 2021.
On Saturday (Dec. 26), the network dropped the official trailer for “Power Book III: Raising Kanan.” The third “Power” series will focus on the early beginnings of Kanan Stark’s life in Southside Jamaica, Queens. In the brief clip, fans can see the late Kanan revert to his younger self as he takes the viewers back to his neighborhood in the ‘90s. With A Tribe Called Quest’s “Excursions” playing in the background, the trailer shows us printed photos of all the people who impact Kanan’s life.
The teaser reveals the new cast including young Kanan, portrayed by Mekai Curtis, as well as other key characters in the series like Unique played by Joey Bada$$ and Hailey Kilgore as Kanan’s cousin Jukebox. Fans are also introduced to more fresh faces like Detective Malcolm Howard played by Omar Epps, Lovie Simone as Davina Harrison, London Brown as Marvin Thomas, and more.
Prior to the release of the trailer, 50 previewed the official theme song for the new series. At the top of the month (Dec. 1), Fif uploaded “Part of the Game,” his collaboration featuring NLE Choppa and Rileyy Lanez, to his Instagram account.
“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” comes after the success of “Power Book II: Ghost,” which debuted on STARZ earlier this year. In an Instagram post about the new series, 50 Cent asserts that fans will come to appreciate the third chapter of the “Power” universe.
“I think your gonna really dig Raising Kanan,” 50 said about the series in his caption. “I’m coming with some heat From executive curtis 50cent jackson #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi.”
