Thanksgiving is right around the corner and Nick Cannon and Dr. Dre got together to make sure that families in Compton, California had groceries in their fridges for the upcoming holiday. The business moguls took on the Feed Your City Challenge and hosted the food drive on Saturday (Nov. 21) at Wilson Park, and hundreds of families lined up ahead of the event.

The Feed Your City Challenge was founded by music industry legend Tony Draper and retired NBA star Ricky Davis as a response to the COVID-19 crisis, that has left millions of Americans out of work and more than 10 million Americans have tested positive for the virus. The Compton event is the tenth stop of the nationwide campaign that has enlisted some of the industry’s biggest stars to help feed their cities.

The stars teamed up with Compton Mayor Aja Brown and radio stations Power 106 and 93.5 Kday to organize the event. Community members received fresh produce, meat, holiday turkeys, and essential PPE supplies.

The event followed COVID-19 guidelines, with volunteers handing out supplies in full protective gear and attendees used a one-lane contactless drive-thru with a separate line for walk-ups to adhere to social distancing rules and regulations.

Dr. Dre released a statement about his involvement ahead of the Saturday event and why he chose to participate. “Unity is within us all. By us working together we can serve the underserved,” the mogul said. “Thanksgiving is a special time to bring people together; people shouldn’t have to worry about how they’re going to feed their family for the holidays, so we accepted the challenge from Tony Draper and his team to generate that unity for Compton during these difficult times.”

Other stars have previously accepted the Feed Your City Challenge across the country including Pusha T in Norfolk, Trey Songz in Petersburg, DJ Mustard and Jhene Aiko in Los Angeles, Rick Ross in Miami and more. This isn’t Nick Cannon’s first time taking on the challenge, as he also participated in the event in Chicago.
