Bobby Shmurda is reportedly working on a new project while behind bars.
In an interview with Ebro Darden, which Darden shared to Instagram on Thursday (Jan. 23), Brooklyn rapper Fivio Foreign hinted at an upcoming release from the incarcerated rapper.
While Fivio was discussing his breakout single “Big Drip,” he revealed a recent phone conversation he’d had with Rowdy Rebel, who has been locked up with Bobby.
“Bobby, he’s dropping a mixtape from jail,” Fivio told Darden. “I spoke to Rebel on the phone. He said, two weeks and he got some fire coming out. He’s going crazy.”
Bobby last released his Shmoney Shmurda and Shmurdaville mixtapes in 2014, along with his Shmurda She Wrote EP.
The two GS9 members were arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a weapon, conspiracy to commit murder and more back in 2014. Bobby pleaded guilty to the charges in 2016 and has been serving out his prison sentence at the Clinton Correctional Facility in New York.
The “Hot N*gga” rapper was offered a five-year sentence, but ended up taking a seven-year deal, in order to guarantee a reduced sentence for his bandmate.
“They offered me five and offered Rowdy 12,” he told Complex back in 2016. “They said the only way they’ll give him seven is if I took seven too. So, you know, I had to take one for the dawgs.”
The act of loyalty has earned Bobby praise from the likes of Boosie Badazz and more.
Bobby’s mother, Leslie Pollard, gave fans the latest update on her son’s prison status last year.
“Great visit with my stinky…..the countdown continues 22 months to go,” she previously wrote on Instagram. “Chewy is in great spirits he sends his Love and he can not wait to be back to work.”
Quavo also offered an update on the rapper’s well-being last month and hinted at an upcoming collaboration.
“Jus Talked Bobby Shmurda Lil Bro In Great Spirits Bout To Touch Turf Soon!!!” the Migos rapper tweeted. “SHMIGO ALERT 2020!!!”
