Back in June, Headie One officially kickstarted his next campaign with “Pound Signs,” immediately increasing hype for an official follow-up to his debut LP Edna. Yesterday (August 26), he added to the momentum with a new single titled “2 Chains,” a Twintwo and M1OnTheBeat-produced offering that sees him as supercilious and defiant as ever:
“Two chains on me, smoke on bro, it ain’t on me, turn him to a Gunner, he ain’t Ljungberg, he ain’t Henry, but it’s an unbeaten season, I’m feelin’ like Wenger in ‘03, I know them opp boys feelin’ it, they’re injury-prone, or they’re losin’ teammates, middle finger to the Trident, my young boy don’t know his release date, come look at the club, it’s fryin’, we ain’t comin’ out here with no tray, lord knows I feel like The Weeknd…”
Courtesy of both DAPS and Nate Burland, the accompanying clip for “2 Chains” sees Headie One in what looks like an abandoned warehouse. Throughout, he can be seen with some eye candy in a Rolls Royce and in a courtyard utilizing a flame thrower while four-wheelers spin around him. At the end of the video, the Tottenham star is seen laying on a bed spray-painted with the words “Too loyal… for my own good” — a possible album title, perhaps?
Edna originally made landfall back in October, complete with 20 tracks and additional features from M Huncho, AJ Tracey, Stormzy, Young T & Bugsey, Young Adz, Future, Drake, Skepta, Aitch, and more. The project proved to be both a critical and commercial success, landing Headie One his first number one of the UK Albums chart. Back in February, Headie would liberate a deluxe edition of the album with eight more songs and new collaborations alongside the likes of Burna Boy, Rich The Kid, and RV.
Press play on “2 Chains.”
