This weekend, Jaykae decided to bless with masses with some new heat, connecting with Jorja Smith for the garage-esque cut “1000 Nights.” Produced by Ezrah, the track sees the duo telling a story involving the illegal lifestyle and how it affects everyone involved:
“The judge just put him inside, nothing was right, lost his job so the money was tight, left two kids and the mummy inside, now, daddy can’t give no cuddles at night, was a troublesome guy, hustlin’ by, everybody’s raw, had enough of his lies, always had Ps, now he’s getting on top, and ain’t tryna lose the love of his life, now he’s juggling white…”
Directed by Luke Biggins, the accompanying clip sees Jaykae and Jorja moving throughout as the unfortunate tale unfolds — beginning with a young man presumably dealing drugs while his wife and daughter struggle to make ends meet. Elsewhere, another father is playing with his son before finding himself apprehended by the police following an illegal transaction. The clip ends with an older man getting robbed of his own product, before it’s revealed that he’s the father of the individual at the beginning of the video.
It’s been years since Jaykae released his last body of work Where Have You Been?, an eight-track offering that saw additional features from Murkage Dave, TiGA, YASeeN RosaY, and S-X. Since then, he’s released a slew of well-recieved loose cuts, including “Heartache,” “On The Way Home” with Aitch and Bowser Boss, “Chat” with Local, “On Top,” and — most recently — the Swift Beater-produced “Chop.” The Birmingham star could also be heard on tracks by The Streets, Tom Zanetti, Nathan Dawe, Kida Kudz, slowthai, and Ed Sheeran, among other notable peers.
