It’s been three years since Jorja Smith blessed us with her debut LP Lost & Found, a 12-track project that received critical acclaim and pushed the rising songstress to the forefront of today’s soul and R&B. In addition to landing on charts around the globe, the album also helped Smith earn a Best British Female Artist Award at the 2019 Brit Awards, as well as a Grammy nod for Best New Artist in the same year. In addition to Lost & Found, Smith also liberated loose cuts like “Be Honest” with Burna Boy and “Come Over” with Popcaan, and contributed to songs by Maverick Sabra, Enny, and Brent Faiyaz’s Sonder.
Today, she makes a big return with the new EP Be Right Back, which sees eight dope cuts for her fans to enjoy. Added to the release is a visual for the standout track “Bussdown,” which features fellow British talent Shaybo and sees the collaborators singing and rapping about being financial successful and having others take advantage of that success:
“Run it, run it now, you wanna head out, the flight leaves at noon and she wanna buy Chanel, they just dropped them two bags, they want another, now you’re askin’ for too much/
Order what you like, don’t have to pay her back, the party’s at midnight, she wants an ounce of that, feels so bad to feel nice, but she can’t handle that, it comes with a small price, yeah…/”
Directed by Fenn O’Meally, the accompanying clip stars Smith as a mechanic who takes rather unethical approaches to getting paid by her customers. Elsewhere, she’s joined by Shaybo, both of whom flex their high-end gains while shopping for jewelry in a dark-lit room.
