One of the most appreciated occurrences in hip-hop is when a younger artist gets to work with one of the OG’s in the game they’ve been inspired by, and the freshly released Polo G and Lil Wayne collaboration is the latest instance of that. Enter “GANG GANG,” Polo’s newest single. On his guest verse, Wayne comes through and reminds everyone why hip-hop calls him one of the greats:
Soon as I touch down, them pussy feds be hot on me (Woo)/ Heard n***as got money out on my head, tell ‘em “Come crown the king” (Huh)/ Let the work thaw out for fourteen days, that’s quarantine (Damn)
I poured my heart out before my lean, baby, no R&B (Yeah)/ Six-six-deuce, MOB Piru, big soo woo, slime my crew/ Slatt, slatt, slatt, a-achoo, wipe his nose, God bless you/ Blatt-blatt-blatt, I’m not through/ Bratt-tat-tat, duck-duck-goose, two big guns on me for the smoke/
The track was first previewed via Polo’s Instagram and Triller at the top of 2021 before the collaboration was revealed months later with a snippet of Wayne’s verse surfacing online. In an Instagram post on May 17, Polo announced the track’s release for the 21st, when it is expected to drop alongside a music video. Polo has repeatedly shown respect to Wayne throughout his career, even citing him as one of his biggest influences in a March 2019 interview with XXL.
In terms of what Polo G has been up to, he just recently shared his video for “RAPSTAR,” which follows the drops “Epidemic,” “GNF (OKOKOK),” and “Headshot,” a joint single with Lil Tjay and Fivio Foreign and eventually landed on Tjay’s recent release Destined 2 Win. Last year, Polo G liberated his sophomore LP The GOAT, which saw 16 tracks and additional contributions from Mustard, Juice WRLD, Stunna 4 Vegas, NLE Choppa, Mike WiLL Made-It, Lil Baby, and BJ The Chicago Kid.
