Earlier this month, Queen Naija and Ari Lennox teamed up for the new single “Set Him Up,” a song that sees the two realizing that they’re dating the same man:
“I’m doing anything and everything, to him if he fuckin’ with you, and he fuckin’ with me too…”
Now, we get to see the drama unfold via their new visual for the Pat McManus, Boston, and Mike Woods-produced track. Directed by Val Vega, the clip begins with the artists in their respective bedroom, gushing about their respective partners. Over time, the similarities become too evident, and — once the truth is figured out — they end the video by tying up their shared perpetrator in the bedroom. It just proves that it doesn’t pay to cheat.
“Set Him Up” is taken from the deluxe edition of Queen Naija’s debut album missunderstood, which originally saw 18 cuts with additional features from Kiana Ledé, Lil Durk, Lucky Daye, Russ, Pretty Vee, Mulatto, Toosii, and Jacquees. The deluxe upgrade — titled missunderstood…still — adds on seven more tracks and, in addition to Lennox, new contributions from Wale and J.I the Prince of N.Y.
Not one to shy away from re-releases either, early last year saw Ari Lennox bless her fans with a remix EP of her 2019 debut LP Shea Butter Baby, recruiting Doja Cat, Smino, and Durand Bernarr for alterations of three high quality album cuts. 2020 also saw Lennox joining her Dreamville family on the Director’s Cut edition of the chart-topping compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III, adding her distinct, stress-obliterating voice to the songs “BUSSIT” and “Revenge.”
Fans can press play on Queen Naija and Ari Lennox’s “Set Him Up” video, as well as missunderstood…still, below. It’s very hopeful that sophomore follow-up to both missunderstood and Shea Butter Baby lie somewhere on the horizon.
