About a week ago, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak rocked the music world when they surprised fans with their joint project announcement. An Evening with Silk Sonic is the title of their upcoming collaborative project, and we officially received the first taste from it today with their new single “Leave The Door Open.” The track comes paired with a music video as well, which you can enjoy down below.
Not much is known about the body of work yet except for how funk pioneer Bootsy Collins is closely involved in the album as guest host. Fans quickly took to social media to share their excitement, reiterating how the pairing makes perfect sense due to both artists’ penchants for crafting groovy, feel-good hits.
Bruno Mars’ last full-length body of work was 2016’s 24K Magic, and although it’s been a few years, the immense success of the project has carried him through to this day. At the 2018 Grammy Awards, Mars won in the six categories for which he was nominated: Album of the Year and Best R&B Album for 24K Magic, Record of the Year for the title track and Song of The Year, Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Song for “That’s What I Like.” 24K Magic also won a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, for the work of the album’s engineers. It boasts his hit “Finesse,” which later on got an attention-garnering remix with Cardi B.
Anderson .Paak, on the other hand, had an active 2020. He shared cuts like “Lockdown” with Jay Rock, “Cut Em In” with Rick Ross, and “Yuuuu” with Busta Rhymes. “JEWELZ” is his most recent offering, which sees production from The Breed, Shucati, and legendary producer Timbaland. The aformentioned singles follow last year’s Ventura, Anderson .Paak’s fourth studio LP that saw 11 tracks and features from André 3000, Smokey Robinson, Lalah Hathaway, Jazmine Sullivan, Sonyae Elise, Brandy, and Nate Dogg. That album also won .Paak a Grammy for Best R&B Album, as well as a top five spot on the Billboard 200 thanks to 55,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release.
