As with other major cities in the United States, it’s pretty amazing to see the District of Columbia and the surrounding metropolitan area going through a new renaissance of sorts, as artists like IDK, Rico Nasty, Big Flock, Xanman, and many more are making their voices heard — not only locally, but across the the entire country as a whole. Looking to make his mark in that realm is Silver Spring, MD rising star Covaboy, who has quickly separated himself from many of his peers thanks to his gruff delivery and vivid bars about living your life in the midst of struggle and eventual success.
Following the release of top tier visuals for tracks like “Smile More,” “Pinky Promise (Black Excellence),” and “Soundtrack For The Hustlers,” Covaboy unveils his new project Silver Sity, a nine-track EP that sees additional appearances from King Quell, Garren, Abdou, Tracie Josephine, and Curren$y. Production on the project is handled by Rick Roman, DillyGotItBumpin, Ill Wonka, and more.
As with the previous drops, Silver Sity as a whole acts as a vivid autobiography of both the rising star and the new bustling Washington, D.C. suburb that made him into who he is today. Take for instance the opening track “Exit 28,” which gives the listener a proper introduction into Covaboy’s life and goals:
“I couldn’t wait for them to catch up, that shit slowed me down, the golden child in Silver Sity, always had my own sound, and niggas never give you credit ‘til you’re layin’ in the ground, I set a meeting with the florist ‘cause I need my flowers now/
And Prezzy told me it’ll be like this, told me to keep it G like this, you ain’t got it, you ain’t got it, they can see the shit…/”
