Formerly known as I Am K-BeatZ, Toronto beatsmith KyleYouMadeThat has been crafting dope cuts for the likes of Tinashe, Trey Songz, RUSSELL!, and OnCue. For his latest, he recruits NLE Choppa for the upbeat “Hoopla,” which samples Kurtis Blow’s 80’s classic “Basketball” and sees the Memphis rapper flipping sports references and boasting his own athletic abilities:

“Ayy, know basketball is my favorite sport, that’s of course, low-cut Kobe sneaks, when I hit the floor, what you hit it for? The best on the court, just look at the score, indoor, outdoors, I’m scoring, Im scoring, dunk on defenders, Im soaring, I’m soaring/”

NLE Choppa has been pretty busy since the start of the previous year, having joined the likes of Mulatto, Polo G, Lil Keed, Fivio Foreign, Lil Tjay, Jack Harlow, and Rod Wave as the latest round of XXL Freshman. 2020 also saw him releasing his official debut LP Top Shotta, a 20-track body of work with additional appearances from Roddy Ricch, Chief Keef, and Lil Baby. Mere months later, Choppa would then follow that up with the commercial mixtape From Dark To Light, a reflection of his changing ideals that saw assists from Ink and Big Sean, the latter of whom contributed to the project standout “Moonlight.”

Prior to NLE Choppa’s addition to “Hoopla,” the instrumental landed on Tik Tok, stirring up a more than a million views thanks to a wealth of youth dancing and vibing to the beat on the social media platform. It’s essentially the same “Tik Tok” effect that brought other hit singles to viral status, including Doja Cat’s “Say So,” Cardi B’s “WAP,” Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage,” and — more recently — SPOTEMGOTTEM’s “Beatbox,” which spawned the now-famous Junebug challenge.
