Next month, NLE Choppa will unveil his next body of work Me vs. Me, which is expected to contain 16 tracks and is currently led by the singles “Mmm Hmm,” “Final Warning,” and “Jumpin,” the last of which sees an assist from Polo G. Today (Nov. 19), the Memphis emcee drops off another single from the forthcoming effort titled “I.Y.B.” (or, presumably, “If You Buck”), a Quay Global-produced effort that sees Choppa delivering some of his most aggressive bars to date:
“Push his wig back like a nigga receding, shoot him in the stomach, them bullets he eatin’, pop him in his top, then his brain start leakin’, better shut the fuck up when a nigga start speakin’, knock a nigga weight off like I’m doing lipo, yeah, I’m a psycho, strapped like a dyke ho, put insurance on yourself, nigga, you a Geico, I ain’t never wrote a statement, nigga, you a typo…”
2020 was a banner one for NLE Choppa. First, he found himself alongside the likes of Fivio Foreign, Mulatto, Lil Keed, Jack Harlow, and Polo G as one of the latest XXL Freshman. Then, he unveiled his debut album Top Shotta, a 20-track offering that sees additional appearances from Mulatto, Roddy Ricch, Chief Keef, and Lil Baby. The project was a success for the Memphis star, earning him both a top ten placement and a Gold certification. Months later, he would return with the mixtape From Dark To Light, a more positively-directed effort that contained 13 cuts and assists from Big Sean and Ink.
During a recent appearance on REVOLT’s “Off Top” series, NLE Choppa spoke on the fact that his generation can be just as lyrically adept as those that came before them:
“It was a lot of more lyrical rappers like the Logics, the Chance The Rappers, but a lot of people was like this generation sometimes don’t wanna hear what’s gonna benefit them.”
