Back in 2019, Young M.A liberated her official debut LP Herstory In The Making, which came with 21 songs and additional features from Max YB and Relle Bey. Yesterday (Oct. 5), the Brooklyn rhymer decided to reach back to that album to release a new visual for “Crime Poetry,” a NY Bangers-produced outro that saw her rapping about her current status and fame:
“Holy fuckin’ moly, I’m a superstar, I drive super cars, I fuck the smartest women, I fuck stupid broads, they know who I is, they know who I are, fill this cup up like a battery and now I’m supercharged, fill this blunt up, take off like a rocket, I see super stars, moon and Mars, put a message on a bullet, now they know who my shooters are, covered up in these tattoos because we can’t remove the scars…”
Directed by Marc Diamond, the accompanying clip for “Crime Poetry” keeps things simple and to the point, with Young M.A donning a red bandana while performing the track in a dark room. It’s a perfect backdrop of sorts that allows the song to remain the most important aspect, reminding listeners why M.A is still one of the illest lyricist in the game.
A year after Herstory In The Making made landfall, M.A kept the proverbial party going with Red Flu, which certainly kept the fans fed during quarantine months. Back in May, she then returned with her sophomore album Off The Yak, an 11-song offering that saw contributions from Fivio Foreign, Rubi Rose, Max YB, and WAP5TAR. Shortly after, M.A took to social media to reveal a prayer, that led many to believe she was entering into rehab:
“Loving God, I pray that you will comfort me in my suffering, lend skill to the hands of my healers, and bless the means used for my cure.”
