Back in September, Little Simz liberated her critically acclaimed fourth album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, a 19-track body of work that saw a couple of assists from Cleo Sol and Obongjayar. In addition to topping UK’s Independent and R&B Albums charts, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert also landed Simz within the top five of the Official Albums chart, making it her highest charting to date.

Today (Oct. 25), the British talent dropped off a new visual from the LP for the emotionally charged standout “I Love You, I Hate You,” a song that sees Simz opening up about her relationship with her father and its effects on her relationships with others:

“You made a promise to God to be there for your kids, you made a promise to give them a life you didn’t live, my ego won’t fully allow me to say that I miss you, a woman who hasn’t confronted all her daddy issues, the day will come when you gotta find all the answers to your sins, pressures of providin’, feelin’ unhappy within, or what kind of external family shit up on your plate, but I understand wantin’ and needin’ an escape…”

The accompanying clip comes courtesy of Jeremy Ngatho Cole and begins with a young boy in distress while others paint around him. Things then move to a woman sitting at a table with an older man, presumed to be her father. As she continued to write, said table seems to elongate, pulling the two further away from each other. After overseeing these two scenes, Simz can then be seen delivering the song’s final words solo — the boy from earlier smiles at one of the completed pantings before the video ends.
