We still have a couple of months before Little Simz finally liberates her fourth studio album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, which will see 19 cuts and additional features from Cleo Sol and Obongjayar. Following the well-received singles “Introvert,” “Rollin Stone,” and “Woman,” Simz continues to build her momentum with “I Love You, I Hate You,” an emotionally charged number that’s produced by Inflo and sees her opening up about her and her father’s more-than-strained relationship:

“You made a promise to God to be there for your kids, you made a promise to give them a life you didn’t live, my ego won’t fully allow me to say that I miss you, a woman who hasn’t confronted all her daddy issues, the day will come when you gotta find all the answers to your sins, pressures of providin’, feelin’ unhappy within…”

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Simz further expounded on how it felt to bring “I Love You, I Hate You” to life:

“I just don’t wanna keep holding on to this anger towards this man that I barely even know. I know he’s my biological father and he wasn’t around for the majority of my life, but I don’t really know him.”

Upon its release, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert will follow 2019’s Grey Area, a critically acclaimed effort that contained 10 tracks and contributions from Cleo Sol, Chronixx, Michael Kiwanuka, and Little Dragon. In addition to landing at the number one and eleven on the UK R&B Albums and UK Independent Albums charts, respectively, Grey Area also saw Simz score a best album honor at last year’s 65th Ivor Novello awards. Following the revelation, she spoke on her gratitude for such an amazing accomplishment:

“This is the one that’s probably the most important because it’s about the songwriting, and it’s about the skill of the pen. I’m super, super grateful to have been recognized.”
