Last December, Cam’ron dropped off his long awaited seventh studio album Purple Haze 2, the official sequel to the 2004 classic. Following visuals for “Believe In Flee,” “Losing Weight 3,” and “Ride The Wave,” the Harlem representative returns with a cinematic clip for “Medellin,” which sees Killa using his gift of gab over production from ADM Beats and Mr. Authentic:
Nowadays you might see me with a Barbie, was gon’ take my ex back, seen her with Safaree/
Had her with the work in the car, that was my down b***h, but you joined the circus, you do clown s***…/
In true Cam’ron fashion, viewers get to watch the Dipset general on a Colombian excursion, where he meets with Pablo Escobar’s brother, Roberto, and the Escobar family on Roberto’s expansive estate. You can also see Cam playing with the favela kids, and meeting different locals throughout the clip — one of whom even painted a gigantic sized mural of Cam’s most recent album cover. Speaking with Complex, Cam’ron spoke on how the video came together:
“I had a friend who was cool with Roberto Escobar. Roberto has been trying to get with rappers for a while, and it just happened. It was so coincidental that a friend was like, ‘You know, Roberto has been wanting to get with rappers because he feels that rappers showed his family a lot of love.’ I said, ‘Well, let’s put it together.’ It really wasn’t that hard. It kind of fell in my lap. Maybe two months later, he got all the particulars together, and we went out there and shot the video.”
You can press play on “Medellin” below. Purple Haze 2 saw 16 new tracks, along with features from fellow Dipset member Jim Jones, Wale, the incarcerated Max B, and more — if you missed it, you can check the album out here.
