Congratulations are in order for Wale as he just announced on Twitter that The Album About Nothing is officially gold.
“Wit that said it’s a perfect time to let y’all know that ‘The Album About Nothing’ is officially GOLD,” he tweeted. “Many people didn’t understand my vision… it was hard to get things green lit. Thx to everybody who believed! [Jerry Seinfeld] made some 1 of 1 calls to get some things through. Plaque otw!”
His fourth studio album featured hit singles such as “The Matrimony” and “The Body” and had appearances from SZA, Jeremih, Usher, J. Cole and more. The project also featured Wale’s good friend and comedian, Jerry Seinfeld.
Back in 2013, Seinfeld announced that he was going to be working on the album with the Washington D.C. native after they met at a stand up concert.
“He wanted me to do something with him,” the comedian said. “I didn’t understand it, but he did and then I kind of liked the guy, I dug the guy, and I listened to his music, I liked the music. So I said alright, I’ll do it, even though I didn’t know what I was going to do.”
He continued, “So I said to my wife, ‘I’m doing this thing with this guy Wale’ and she said, ‘Wale is my favorite hip hop artist. I have every single thing.’ Somehow, she missed anything that had to do with me, but has every other cut, everything else he’s done. I said just type in Wale and me and see what comes up.”
Following its April 2015 release, The Album About Nothing peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming the MC’s second straight No. 1 after The Gifted. The project spent 26 weeks on the chart.
