When it comes to the hip hop veterans, E-40 is debatably the hardest working man in the business. Last year’s Practice Makes Paper marked the Bay Area legend’s twenty-sixth studio LP, and — perhaps intentionally — boasted a whopping twenty-six cuts with features from B-Legit, Rick Ross, Chris Brown, ScHoolboy Q, Roddy Ricch, Scarface, Wiz Khalifa, Boosie Badazz, Fabolous, and many, many more. This year, E-40 has announced his latest project The Curb Commentator, which will be distributed throughout the year as a bimonthly EP series — beginning with Channel 1, which was originally set to drop April 17 but is now being released the following week. The exact release dates for subsequent drops can be seen via E-40’s social media:
To kick things off, fans get to check out the new single titled “Go,” which is produced by his son Droop-E. Presumably, the short-but-sweet track is titled so because E-40 does his best DaBaby impression and starts rapping from the moment you press the play button:
“All I need is my family and dividends, stick with what I got, don’t need no new friends/
Because the truth of the matter, now that I think about it, people that I thought was solid turned out to be silent/
Tipsy while I’m servin’ smoking urban, sippin’ Kuiper Belt, that’s E-40’s new bourbon/”
As the last bar reveals, E-40 been heavy in the adult beverages game as of late. In addition to his long-standing Earl Stevens wine collection and mixed-spirit Sluricane brand, the hip hop mogul now has E. Cuarenta tequila, Tycoon vodka, and — his most recently announced — a bourbon he calls Kuiper Belt. Add in his good food outlet The Lumpia Company alongside Alex Retodo, and you have a man with an exponentially expanding business outside of music.
Press play on “Go” below, which is now available on all major streaming platforms. The Curb Commentator: Channel 1 makes landfall April 24.
