Dax has certainly come a long way from his days as a janitor. As of late, the Canadian emcee has been crafting clever songs and working with peers like Tech N9ne, O.T. Genasis, and Hopsin. This week, he connects with Midwest star Trippie Redd for the new single “i don’t want another sorry,” which sees production from Trademark, SephGotTheWaves, and Stillsanexile. The track sees the collaborators harmonizing about heartache and pain over an apparently unfaithful lover:
“Two wrongs don’t make a right, I turn left, now you mad I don’t pick up, I don’t return texts, like I’m supposed to let it slide, what? And just forget, that you destroyed everything we had, what, just for sex?/
Fuck that, I’m angry, I’m depressed, and I’m mad, remenicising over days, livin’ life in the past, how’d you do that shit? Was I really that bad, I even let you stay, I even let you meet my dad…/”
The somber cut also sees an accompanying visual courtesy of Logan Meis, which begins with Dax signing off on a surgical removal of his heart as his presumed significant other waits. We then see said surgery in “graphic” detail, mixed with shots of Dax leaving his girl and performing the cut with an indoor-smoking Trippie Redd in the hospital hallway.
Songs about relationship woes certainly aren’t knew to Dax — in addition to earlier cuts like “She Cheated Again,” this past March saw him release the seven-track EP I’ll Say It For You, which contained songs like “Love Hurts” and “My Heart Hurts.” This year also saw several loose cuts, including “Book of Revelations,” “Black Lives Matter,” “FASTER,” “Grinch,” and the DC Comics-inspired standouts “JOKER,” “Gotham,” and “Joker Returns.”
