Following his reunion with Spillage Village, J.I.D has been peppering the masses with notable freestyles. Today, he adds to that with a new single titled “Ballads,” which is produced by Big Jerm and Christo and features Conway The Machine. To the surprise of no one, the two collaborators spit some of their most rewind-worthy bars over the soulful backdrop:
“Wasn’t used to taking orders if I ruled, my apologies, I never been a follower, I’m addicted to the power, so I studied the remains of the game, I’m an archaeologist, more money, more problems/
That’s a tough pill to swallow if you ain’t about that s*** that you be talkin, three holes in his head, bowling balled him, who’s brawling now, you calling God but s*** means so he gotta hear one of us…/”
Released in September with fellow Spillage Village members EarthGang, Hollywood JB, Jurdan Bryant, Mereba, 6LACK, and Benji., Spilligion saw 12 cuts and additional appearances from Big Rube, Ari Lennox, Buddy, Chance The Rapper, Masego, Lucky Daye, and more. Prior to that, the Atlanta emcee was a major part of Dreamville’s 2019 drop Revenge of the Dreamers III, a compilation album that landed all parties at the top of the Billboard 200 thanks to 115,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. That project subsequently spawned a deluxe edition this past January.
J.I.D’s latest solo release was 2018’s DiCaprio 2, which was hosted by DJ Drama. Considered his second studio LP, DiCaprio 2 saw 14 cuts and assists from A$AP Ferg, J. Cole, Ella Mai, BJ The Chicago Kid, Method Man, and Joey BADASS. His debut album, The Never Story, made landfall the year prior.
Press play on J.I.D and Conway The Machine’s “Ballads” below. Presumably, we’ll be hearing about a new body of work from J.I.D soon.
