Most recently, Jhené Aiko can be heard lending her angelic vocals to tracks like “Back To The Streets” by Saweetie and “Stars In The Sky” by Phora. She was also on Ty Dolla $ign’s recent album Featuring Ty Dolla $ign alongside DJ Mustard on the song “By Yourself.” This week, she returns for her own visual for a track off the Chilombo (Deluxe) album from earlier this year. On “A&B,” which stands for “Above and Beyond,” Jhené details a scenario that leaves her unsure:
Like yesterday, I remember the night, saw you driving by. You had a bitch in your passenger side, I called your phone and then you just denied me. Really surprising. That wasn’t like you, I thought you liked me. But now I just don’t know. Where did all your feelings go? I thought we were takin’ it slowly. I thought you were waitin’ on me.
Back in March, Jhené Aiko unveiled her third studio album Chilombo. The 20 track-album included features from Ab-Soul, Big Sean, Future, Miguel, Nas, H.E.R., John Legend, Ty Dolla $ign, and debuted at the number two spot on the Billboard 200 thanks to an impressive 152,000 album equivalent units sold during its first week of release. A month after, she unleashed a deluxe version of the album, which added on nine tracks and new guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa, Kehlani, and Mila J.
In a previous interview with REVOLT, Jhené gave some insight about the process behind how she crafted songs on Chilombo:
“When I’m going through something, it actually flows out easier for me. Doing ‘Triggered’ and several other songs… [gives me] that same feeling that I have to release [it],” Aiko revealed. “It just flows out and I try not to overthink it until I want to [put] ad-libs in or background [vocals]. My new album I’m working on now is like that. Every song that you hear is me [freestyling].”
