Fans of Gorillaz have been enjoying the band’s “Song Machine” episodes, each of which has revealed a new track from their forthcoming album of the same name. Now, we know that Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez will be making landfall October 23, and will feature the previous singles “Désolé” with Fatoumata Diawara, “Aries” with Georgia and Peter Hook, “How Far” with Skepta and Tony Allen, and the ScHoolboy Q-assisted “Pac-Man.”
This week, Gorillaz return with another track titled “The Pink Phantom,” which teams 6LACK up with legendary artist Elton John. As with the aforementioned cuts, the single also comes with a video where everyone sans a trippy colored 6LACK is presented in the Gorillaz cartoon style. Produced alongside Nigerian drummer and longtime Gorillaz collaborator Remi Kabaka, the track centers around summer love:
“Try to tell you that I love you but I’m choked up, you forgot and that makes me feel like no one, were you even really there? Did you ever really care?/
Wait, I got so many examples of all of the good times we had, long summer nights, held you long time, put your name in my rhyme, refresh your memory…/”
